Current Events > Saw that Planetside 2 got a pretty big update recently.... is it any better?

I played the shit out of PS1 and played PS2 from beta until the pay-to-win aspect of the new weapons Sony kept putting up on their cash shop turned me off to it. My favorite thing in PS1 was sneaking into a base while invisible and hacking the shield gen prior to a big assault, but PS2 didn't really have that experience so I spent most of my time jumping walls with rocket packs.

Steam says the game has actually been creeping up lately in terms of player count, so I'm curious if the game got better or whether it's just people popping in to check out the new features. Anyone play it and have thoughts?

I haven't played in a while, but I had a blast when I did. Absolutely need to be in an outfit getting orders as a squad for it to be worth anything though.

When I played it back then, there were two big issues: the "basic" utilities for units were not the default equipment for any class or vehicle besides heavies and almost all servers had one faction which dominated population and therefore the map. Nobody wanted to join a losing team on a server so they'd just keep stomping.

Now the basic kit was all low cost, save for rocket pods but that only really matters if you're a fighter pilot. I think anti air MAX guns weren't that bad in price and most basic gear wasn't too bad.

Of they solved those two issues, the game should be pretty great.
