With the success of Resident Evil 2 in 1998, Capcom began more Resident Evil projects across multiple consoles. Code: Veronica originated from an unsuccessful attempt to port Resident Evil 2 to the Sega Saturn. After producer Shinji Mikami and his team learned they would be unable to port the game without making a large sacrifice to quality, Mikami was asked by his leadership to create something else for Sega fans, and so development began on an original game. When Mikami asked for more time to develop the game, he was told it would need to have a better technical quality, making Sega's upcoming Dreamcast more appealing.[8] Around the same time, a side-story game for the PlayStation starring Jill Valentine in the events leading up to Resident Evil 2 was being developed. This title was originally intended to be a spin-off with the Dreamcast title to be the true sequel. According to IGN, Sony bartered for limited exclusivity on the "Resident Evil 3" title, and thus the side-story was branded as Resident Evil 3 and the true sequel was labeled a spin-off and later titled Code: Veronica.[9] This notion is conflicted by interviews at the time, as producer Shinji Mikami and Flagship president Yoshiki Okamoto told journalists they wanted to keep the numbered chronology on the PlayStation systems, and give subtitles to Resident Evil games on all other systems.[10][11] Regardless, the game content remained essentially unchanged.[9]

i'm trying my damnedest to get that last achievement on cvx (getting the rocket locker which requires an A). no saves no first aid sprays under 4.5 hours. i'm not sure i have the skills for that.

CV is basically a main line classic RE game. Its Classified as a part of the classic games. Its a direct follow up to Resident Evil 2 and continues the story of Claire looking for her brother Chris.

There were initial rumors that RE3 was originally the real side story, and CV was the real RE3. But Sony didnt let that happen on their console. Who knows if thats true or not but Ive never thought of CV as a side story. It just never got a number for unknown reasons outside of Capcoms and Sonys doors.

Counterpoint: RE4 is the most popular game in the series and one of the most influential games of all time. Like, even more than RE1 was, which was a ripoff of Alone in the Dark. Not only is RE4 the best, it is the only true Resident Evil experience.

Never bothered to finish CV/CVX since it was boring as hell and I did not like the characters, in RE 2 I cared more about Leon's story and was not impressed or thrilled with Claire.

Chris was the more interesting of the siblings, and Jill was a much more interesting character then Claire.

I had no investment in CV/CVX so when I found out RE 3 was meant to be the side story I was glad they made it the main 3rd entry and regulated CV/CVX to a non numbered game.

Thats a tough argument. I mean RE1 basically put survival horror games as whole on the map. RE4 really put action over the shoulder shooters on the map. Theyre two different entities IMO. Classic RE and RE4 are pretty different but both are really good at what they do. RE2 remake successfully blended the two together.

I've never played CV, but if there's a remake, I think that I'd be more interested in playing it than RE2R/RE3R, since I'm not a fan of Mr. X or Nemesis.

CV has always been one of my favorite ones. I think the atmosphere, music, and game play are better than RE2, Re3, and rivals Remake.

Yeah it's obvious that RE3 was supposed to be the spin-off and CV was meant to be the proper sequel.

Then again RE lore gets super garbage in CV so who cares.
