Let's say a white co-worker is talking to his black co-worker.

The white co-worker says, "Man this company treats us like slaves."

Could that be misinterpreted?

*could it be interpreted that way? Yes.
is it racist or offensive? Not unless it was said purposely to piss off the black person

Its not like white people were never slaves throughout history, slavery is a universal phenomenon through the course of human history

Could be seen that way by someone with little sense and looking to be offended. Of course context and past history of the employee could factor in, but ultimately the statement is innocuous. Besides, people of every race have been enslaved.

Depends, is the company treating them like slaves? Because if they're working (as an example) like 12 hours straight without a break then no, that statement isn't offensive or racist because it's true. But if the guy randomly said that around an hour into work while they're both sitting near their work computers or something then that certainly raises flags tbh
