I don't understand this rampant cult of personality behind Trump, and I honestly just feel really, really sad for people swept up in his bullshit. My mom is an unfortunate advocate, but I mostly blame that truck driver she keeps talking to on her phone - guy may as well be two websites removed from being an ardent Qanon fan, if he isn't already, and he talks nothing but conspiracy, rhetoric, and all sorts of base, ill-informed poison to her.

I'd like to think the guy means well, I've met him a few times before. I dunno, I just don't know.

The people calling it a hoax weren't (mostly) claiming it wasn't a real thing

They were claiming that the Democrats were both exaggerating it and using it as a way to attack Trump as part of a campaign of bombarbment.

The "hoax" was the response to Corona. Trump himself was pushing this angle.

Same way the risks of Iraq getting WMDs was a very very real and serious thing but the claims that they already had them were a hoax used to justify the war.

They're still wrong obviously but it's not what a lot of people think it is. Think of it as if it said "Corona Media Hoax" when you read it and you'll see what they are trying to say
