Yeah, I'm end stage colon cancer w/ metastasis to lungs and liver (and now my doctors think my bladder has a tumor). Further, my lungs have essentially been eaten by the cancer. They can't do surgery, because if they did there would be nothing left of my lungs. Not only that, but I was born with tet of fallot, which is a rare heart disease that results in four heart defects - one of which is poor artery growth which results in lack of oxygen throughout the body. Then, back around 2012/2013, I developed a pulmonary embolism in one of the arteries in my lungs, and one of the stents implanted in me when I was a kid has also occluded. And I'm reading that those that are at most risk/danger are those with cancer. Nursing homes and other senior facilities here are restricting access to who can come in. My mom spent time at a rehab center after suffering a decent stroke back in October. I'm so glad that she's out of that place and back home now. Before coming home she went to the hospital for "bootcamp" therapy. I apologize for riding off it, but it expresses a lot of my concerns. I am very close to my parents. My mother was diagnosed unexpectedly with colon cancer last summer. It has been a tremendous blow to the family. I'm in my thirties, and still feel like a mess some days over it. She has completed radiation, oral chemo, and is almost done with full on chemo treatment. Then surgery to remove the site. Her white blood cell counts are extremely low right now, and she had to take something for it just last week. She is also a RN, and has been refusing to stay home from work. She still wants to help the sick around her and the community she cares so much for. I don't know how she's doing it, and she's been wearing gloves and masks for months anyway. But her makes her happy. I am not worried about myself. I'm worried for all the people like her and you. I'm concerned about hospital bed availability. It's easy to go itsjusttheflubro. It's not. It's all the other things that are already a danger to the old and infirm PLUS it. I know this isn't Spanish flu 2.0, but those just hand-waving the seriousness of the matter and the danger it poses to at-risk populations away are ignorant at best and morally bankrupt misanthropes at worst. Even it just kills a "few" thousand, that's a big deal to those thousand people, their families, and friends. In short, trust the experts and take things seriously, and remember, your behavior does impact those around you. There are bonds between all of us that transcend blood and borders. This is a time for community and compassion and decency -- and a time to be more than your own or your brother's keeper. Point fingers later. Solve problems instead. --- You know how fads are. And boy oh boy did it hit Virginia today. Man, I'm glad I took Mister Metokur's advice a few weeks ago and stocked up. I took a few extra grocery trips and got some loaves of bread to freeze, some extra cans of food, ramen, mac and cheese, extra milk, etc. Definitely paying off now, I should be good for another couple weeks. Hopefully by then the initial panic shop will have worn itself out and I'll be able to go on a more or less normal grocery shop. A few weeks ago of course hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap were gone, but most everything else was still there. Then the household cleaning supplies ran out, and I noticed on my last shop that every 4th cart or so had bottled water and toilet paper stacked to the brim. That was about last Sunday. Today my friend who works at a grocery store said that his store was ransacked, almost nothing in meats, seafood, bakery, etc was left on the shelf. The place was a madhouse. All at once people realized hey, this is a serious issue, better stock up. Man am I glad I beat the crowds. People thought I was crazy for buying so much, but who's laughing now?
