They just pick whichever side has more things and/or more important things they like.

Fuck that. I live in Alabama and it would quickly become a theocracy where women are forcibly given pregnancy tests every month and everyone would live in abject poverty.

Like Im falling for that one. The conservative side would just use up all their resources, then use their weapons to start taking the other sides. This is why relationships don't work when one person is all take and no give. And also isn't restricted by morals

Theyd still be at the mercy of global agreements. At least theyd get in their own war while the liberal side just sits back and watches with popcorn.

What global agreements? You have to agree to them to be at their mercy, and the ones we do have in place feature no enforcement whatsoever.

Not yet. It can (and should) be treated the same as nuclear weapons agreements.

If the conservative side doesnt agree they stop receiving all imports of any kind.

I'm cool with it. All the Bible belt / south does is bring America down. No taxes? Sure that's nice until you realize your states were generating no income in the first place and you were leaching off the blue states and federal government for your crutches, and without them you fall apart. Imagine how much worst poverty and violence would be and how racism and sexism would flourish.

The liberal states will basically be like Canada. The conservative states will basically be like Iran or Saudi Arabia but with Christianity instead of Islam.

Yes I do agree. As someone that was raised the first half of his life in the north before moving to the south a lot has changed in the 20 years I have been here. Granted it still not where I want to spend the rest of my life, but it's progressed a lot. Both in social issues, education and state laws.

I get a lot of the generalizations, like in this thread, are mostly people trolling because this is CE. But I have a good feeling there are people that genuinely want to hold on to their prejudice generalizations without ever having been in the south all the while crying about other generalizations of other demographics.

Not a good idea. Radical extremists on both sides, mainly the right though, that would try to force their beliefs on the other and it would eventually cause a another civil war. Plus, why should those who don't mainly identify or identify at all with a side be forced to pick one? Also, if this ever did happen, it would completely expose this sham of country that is supposed to be The United States of America, and show our enemies we really aren't allied at all, not even for the mutual good of our country and planet. Not say this isn't apparent as is given the way our president and a lot of our other politicians act.

The US was originally supposed to have a very weak federal government, making it easy to vote with your feet. Over multiple generations, we somehow decided bit by bit that this bloated monstrosity of a federal government that controls a massive amount of the economy and has bases all over the world is constitutional.

Logistically it would be hard to break up because of debt and unfunded liabilities. If there is a hard economic reset such as a federal budget or dollar implosion it may become more feasible because states would have nothing to lose.

I think the above mentioned fiscal or dollar implosion is inevitable because the path of least resistance for politicians is deficit financing. I dont know what level of debt to GDP is too high, but its a safe bet that well get to that level regardless of what it is thanks to our governments political incentives. If your central bank makes debt cheap and you are an old politician looking to be re-elected in 1-4 years, why would you cut deficits when you can buy votes?
