Starting Thursday we will no longer participate in extracurricular activities that take place more than 15 minutes before or after school.

Some people are freaking out and pissed with us... until I tell them we were never paid for any of that and that our job action so far is simply not doing what we are not paid to do.

Seriously this. Teachers get so much heaped on them for very little gain.

Also, we are not moving to job action for more pay (though we are bargaining for a slight increase, 1% more per year than our employers want to give).

Our employers do not want "classroom composition" to be part of the CBA. Meaning they would not have to do anything to address the VERY diverse classrooms we are having now.

Not diverse in terms of race, creed, or anything like that. In each classroom I teach in, we have skill levels ranging at least 4 grade levels. We also have a lot of students being added with little to no English speaking skills. In addition to this, we have students who need adaptations for mental and physical educational learning disabilities. All this combined with larger classroom sizes and less EA's just makes for a situation where we cannot teach effectively anymore.

Our employers refuse to try to do ANYTHING to address these issues. Hell, hire more EA's and we can make it work. Have each school have an English as an Additional Language classroom to ensure new Canadians are getting the proper education for English. Build a couple more schools to lighten the load. I was teaching Grade 2 last week and I had 32 students without an EA.

Kinda pisses me off on how disrespected teacher are. These guys are literally the foundation of our society and yet we have teachers that need a second job to get by.

As someone who taught high school for a few years then quit, the amount of work teachers have to do and their equivalent pay is absurd. Even more absurd is when people throw the But you get summers off excuse, not realizing most good teachers work a lot in the summer too, especially if you coach

There's a weird mix here of "salary employees" and expected work duties. I don't know this situation here though.

Is this something they do every day? Is it like bus duty or something? Sports coaching? My first sentence doesn't mean i'm not on their side, i'm just curious.

The salary does not include anything involving Extra Curricular. You can be salaried and not have any extra curr. at all.
