I've only seen Rocky and Creed, and I preferred Creed to Rocky.

unfortunately, I slacked, and missed out on watching the rest of the original series while it was still on Netflix.

I could see that if you didn't see the other movies. Most of the problems I had with it were issues about it in the context of the series. If I were to look at it as a standalone film, I think I would like it more. Though I hated the loss by split decision ending for that story. It worked the other two times they did it but it just didn't feel right at all for Creed 1.

Well, I had these main gripes with it:

1. It crapped on Apollo. With the exception of the " to prove I wasn't a mistake" line, there was no need to retroactively make Apollo have an affair thirty years later.

2. It resolved the Rocky 3 ending fight, which was definitely meant to be left unresolved on purpose in order for us to not know who was better. Furthermore, it resolved it the wrong way. Rocky had no business whatsoever beating Drago already (one of my biggest complaints with 4), let alone if Apollo was actually still better than him.

3. So Donny tells Rocky "If I'm gonna fight, you're gonna fight", then he loses. Logically, this implies Rocky is gonna die of cancer..?

4. He never even faces off against the dude that took his car for redemption. I mean, he does, but not until 2. It felt like a total oversight lol.

Oh and one other I just remembered.

5. They went back to the "asshole for no reason rival" trope, which honestly I never disliked but after Balboa upped the standard on the rival, it was cringe af to go back. Also, it could have used Mason "The Line" Dixon but that's a minor complaint since it was indeed several years later.

Creed 2 seemed more like a sequel to rocky iv to me. Awesome stuff.
