The whole theme/tone of the show changed, it's basically PG-13 now instead of R, and Mackie is nothing like Kinnaman to the point where trying to pass them off as the same character is downright insulting.

Basically I expected the Mackie/Kinnaman thing (which is something I said was going to negatively impact the show), but not the "kiddifying" of the show.

Also it has nothing to do with the second book outside of using a couple of the same characters/concepts (some with different names).

I didn't like season one to begin with so I was hoping season two would go in a different direction. This doesn't sound like a better one though

Haven't started it, but was disappointed when I watched the trailer for it. Going back to the same planet told me immediately they weren't following the books. First season was great and was largely faithful to the first book, so eh. Granted the 2nd book would be hard to do budget wise, but they can still make it work with some tweaks here and there.

I'll have to watch and see what they did with season 2, but I'm not expecting much. It's always a bad sign when you're successful for doing a faithful adaption, then turn around and do your own thing with the material after that.

I never read the books.

I loved the first season. I love the setting, the mood, the atmosphere. Felt kind of like Blade Runner, in a good way. The story telling was done really well and kind of had you guessing till the end.

I've seen 3 episodes so far of season 2, and it's really not as good as the first season. I don't hate it, but it definitely isn't as good.

Season one got worse as it went on, so I'm not interested in season 2 anyway. The world is cool, but you need more than that, like good acting. The second the sister showed up it got way worse. She's hot as hell but damn is she a bad actor.

I think that I slightly preferred season two to season one, but I don't like how *heavy spoilers for both seasons* how connected events are to Kovacs (Rei being the master manipulator of season one, Quell, his old commander from CTAC, and the Elder thing being tied to them

it makes the world/galaxy feel a bit smaller, IMO.

lmao @ the end. I was actually okay with the show continuing on with Lee-Kovacs (Kovacs "Prime" according to the subtitles lol) as the actual Kovacs and then they went and totally threw that out the window in the final 30 seconds.

I do wonder if the showrunners will be "brave" enough to cast a female to play Kovacs for an entire season at some point. Not sure who I'd pick to do it but it'd definitely have to be someone you can look at and say "Yeah they're a badass".
