I'm not going to be forced to join an HOA, and listen to the demands of angry old boomers, and pay property taxes.

As someone who actually lives here, your pricing is absolutely absurd.

What part of California? I live in Las Vegas and its a brand new house in a private gated community so its nice. We drove 4 hours to California in October and everything was super expensive

Near the bay area. Now you're comparing owning a house vs. renting. Make up your mind. The price you listed is only realistic in SF, LA, and maybe SD. $1,200 is the norm as far as I've seen for a 2b

You're clearly not from California. Some of those listings under $3K are in the rural parts of CA... literally 3 hours away from the bay area.

On the flip side I literally only pay $130 a month in Anchorage alaska. Though that's not a normal full rent. I get housing assistance. But it's a lot better than when I lived in WA and on housing assistance there too, nevertheless had to pay like $300 or something

If you can take the bart from down your street you're essentially paying bay area prices (though less, mind you). I can get to the town in a little over an hour and pay nowhere near that.
