It's cheaper to get Civ 5 + all expansions, and it seems to be the best iteration of traditional 4X Civ gameplay. They changed quite a few mechanics around for Civ 6, so getting a good baseline for how to play would be better on an older game.

Civilization 6 has passed 5 in terms of quality after the DLC was released, but that happens with every civilization iteration
