The episode starts as a typical Voyager episode, but it eventually reveals that the ship you're watching is the copied one. They don't realize it themselves at first and the episode ends with them and their ship falling apart seconds before Voyager reaches them. It was so bad that it led to him never watching and becoming a fan of TNG. He was thus able to audition for Voyager without feeling nervous. Had that happened, they might have actually killed off Harry Kim the way they were planning to before Wang was put on People's sexiest people alive list. Had that happened, they might have kept the far more interesting Kes. Had that happened, maybe her actress wouldn't have lost her mind.
