Leon is correct about the Crossbell arc according to an interview with Kondo that I don't have readily available but can try to find when I get home. (Though when they decided to do it at all, I think they treated it on sort of "equal standing" with the other arcs, though that's just my speculation)

That being said, I don't think he's right about the arc names necessarily being transportation themed because in addition to Crossbell, I believe the Japanese title for the Cold Steel arc isn't related to transportation and the railroad connection only came up in the localized title.

Trails of Cold Steel's Japanese name is Sen no Kiseki. "Sen", literally translated, is the glint of light off a sword blade being drawn, but that wouldn't exactly fit well on the title screen... Some people fan-translated it as "Trails in the Flash" or "Trails of a Flash", but XSEED and Falcom opted for Cold Steel instead.

i always thought "cold steel" referred to swords and never considered it meant railroads
