taken 2 different drug tests for employment and theyve always given me space and alone in a bathroom. During the last one, they were even surprised that I was ready to go right away. They said most people come in and say they arent ready yet

When I do it most places, I can do it alone. They check for tubes and stuff. But I'm good. But when I do it for the military, they have someone watching you. Or, they send someone in with you. How well they watch you is up to them...

Funny enough, I'm usually not ready. Mainly because they always tell me after I just peed. But once, I decided to wait one morning. And lo and behold, I got chosen to pee. So I went. The problem was, they people who run the whole thing were late. It was a little while before they came. I had to go bad. When they finally got there, they started making a line for people to go. But everyone looked at me and said, "He can go first. He really has to go, and has been holding it for a while now." It was the one time I was able to go immediately after getting there...

At my other jobs, it wasn't hard to go as long as I knew before hand. I had to make sure I didn't just go to the bathroom when I needed to...

I might exaggerate a bit at times to emphasize my surprise at US culture. The ability to put whatever substance you want in your body, without harming others, is a freedom, something the US always claims to be all about.

Many drugs are excreted by the body within a couple days, so if you can abstain for a few days before a urine test you'll pass. But drugs also leave a detectable residue in the hair which can remain for months. The hair tests are more expensive so they aren't generally used as often.

Drug tests can be lame, but that's cause I do "drugs".
Oral tests are what I find necessary though. If you can't pass that, then you probably have a drug problem. Unless the company truly doesn't care and I support that as well.

Mind you, I obtain all my drugs legally, but since companies can say that doesn't matter, my prescription is voided by them if I ever get tested. I'm not sure if a lawsuit has ever protected the employee for that though.

Urine tests and beyond go further back than necessary imo. If you can detect something in someone's body from a couple weeks ago that doesn't even have an affect on their brain at that time, how can that be held against them?

Yep, that is what my edit of post 14 refers to, pilots and the like. Otherwise, within the EU, regular employers in the EU are not allowed drug tests of employees without proper cause.

I'm not sure about all places. But I know the military is ok with prescription drugs as long as you have a prescription for them and it's on your medical charts and stuff. I think many places are ok with them as long as they don't hinder your performance. And I think not accepting you because you have to take prescription drugs can be a form of disability discrimination if the drugs don't hinder your performance in any way...

Yeah. And that also makes sense. One of my jobs that checked (and had randoms) involved driving buses and vans and stuff...

The other was military. Technically, everybody got tested. Even people with office jobs. But it does kind of make sense... And they were against federal law, so...

That's pretty surprising, tbh... I've never been a big fan of drug test, but I do understand them... Especially with drugs being illegal and stuff. At least, for the most part...

Distribution and depending on the drug possession yes. Just having a bit of it in your bloodstream is not. Just like alcohol is not, unless in certain situations or when over an allowable level.

If it was just a bit, I guess that makes sense it wouldn't be a big deal. Though, most would believe if you would do drugs a little, you might do it a lot... And possibly at work... Which could cause trouble. So, they don't want someone who may cause trouble there, I would guess... Especially trouble with the law...

Probably. And some places do. We even have a guy at work that had to go to rehab. And takes random piss test every week to make sure hes not drinking. And certain environments dont like it if people drink too much. Though, how much is too much varies from place to place.

That being said, the reasons that many places may not care is because its legal. And while it can be addictive, most people dont think about it that way and think about drugs more when thinking about something being addictive...
