Is the character name in the Japanese version Yuki or did they name it the same?

I don't know but I think Yuki is used for females more than males in Japan.

People may think of it because it's a popular game. But that doesn't mean the name is not a real name or anything. Lots of people probably think of tomb Raider when someone is named Lora. It doesn't mean they were named after Lora Croft. Many people may think of Uncharted when they hear Nathan. But Nathan is a common name. It doesn't mean they were named after Nathan Drake...

Both of those names are incredibly common. Zelda isn't.

I wouldn't say Lora is incredibly common. But more so than Zelda. But that still doesn't change anything. Zelda is still a name that was around before the games. He could have picked any name for his princess. He just picked one that wasn't that common. That doesn't mean that anyone who names their child that is naming them after a video game character. They could be naming them after a relative...

Lara anyway. Which is definitely more common than Lora.

Probably. I haven't met anyone named either of those, IIRC... Maybe, but I don't know for sure. I have met PLENTY of Nathans, though. That being said, part of it may be because of my life. The military has a lot more males than females, so I've had more chances at work to meet a Nathan than I have to meet a Lara. Also, on certain apps, I usually see men rather than women. So, if it were the other way around, maybe I would have seen a good amount of women named Lara...

Meanwhile, the vast majority of people go their entire lives without knowing a single Zelda, and only ever hear the name from a very popular game series over the course of decades. Whether it existed prior or not, the name has a singular association in the minds of most and society at large.

Basically the same sort of reasoning you're not about to try to name your kid Adolf.

People can go their whole lives without meeting a Lara, too. The point isn't whether you know a lot of people with that name or not. The fact is that it was a name before it was a video game character name. He could have picked any name. He picked a less common one. Just because you don't know a lot of Zeldas doesn't mean it can only be associated with a video game character. I never met a Lara. And I probably won't ever meet one. It doesn't mean I should only associate Lara with a video game character.

Yuki (snow) is both male/female, but what Ive noticed is that in Japan, I/O is the opposite of what you would expect here. More often what I saw was names ending in O were female and names ending in I were male. It may have just been coincidence.
