Considering most humans are not extreme introverts, they tend to value at least some of the face-to-face interaction that you find in a designated school location.

I absolutely can't see anything wrong with millions of kids being left home alone to fend for themselves.

Most humans like social interaction, I think. So, its a good place to make friends. Also, its like a baby sitting area for you kids while parents are at work for many of the students. That being said, many school do offer online classes for extra credit and stuff. My brother had some extra online math classes during high school to get extra credit. I remember helping him out on it. Not to mention science fair projects are online, as well. Basically, I dont think schools are going always anytime soon. Not until our robot overloads take over all the jobs and parents are stuck at home all day because nobody in allowed to work. At that point, maybe schools will become all online since parents will be able to watch their kids. That wouldnt be so bad at that point as you could probably do a couple weeks worth of work in one week if you try really hard. Giving you more free time...

Just make everything online
You must not have taken any serious online classes before. The internet can be a great source of supplementary lessons and information, but online learning platforms at the college level are all universally terrible. Like, they shouldn't be, but they are.

Schools are where humans learn the clique-ish, exclusionary behaviors that will follow them into the workplace and prison and make the world a rough place for everyone.
