If you like JRPGs then Chrono Trigger is a game you must have your own opinion on. Just dont expect it to be one of the best games ever. Even it actually is the best game of the 16bit era.

If the goal was to compose a list of the greatest games ever that I haven't played, almost none of these games would be on the list! Even if I just took the games that are on the list and ordered them based on how good they are (which would be ironic since I haven't played them), the order would be quite different.

I'm not praising any of these games by putting them on the list. The criteria was that these are games I'm most surprised that I've never played, considering my tastes, which consoles I owned, how much money/free time I had when they came out, etc.

I wish I could experience Chrono Trigger for the first time again.

i feel like a lot of your list examples are series of games though where if you've already played one you are perfectly excused from playing more of them if you don't want to

I haven't played any entries in the games that are listed as a series

it seemed to make more sense to just list the whole series rather than choose one in particular that makes the least sense to have not played. would be splitting hairs at that point

i meant that more on stuff like sequels, like Smash 4 or Pokemon Ruby... if you've spent a ton of time in other games of that series its a perfectly normal thing that you skipped one (ie an excuse). Way different from being like "yeah i just never played any of the mass effects, crazy right?"

Chrono Trigger deserves most of the hype so I would definitely recommend it! I wouldn't call it one of the greatest games ever, but it's definitely a top tier JRPG.

The first two Golden Sun games are fun but nothing special so you're not missing out by not playing them. Never played the third so no comment on it (I do own a copy of it oddly enough but have never played it for some reason)

Well, I mean that's a fair take for anyone to have. But for me and my tastes and the way I approach gaming in general, those stand out. Like I said the general foundation was "if you knew me and my tastes very well, you'd assume I had played these games". So, I guess my title might have thrown you off. It's not really about the existence of a literal excuse.
