i remember. i was struggling to ride a bike then my mom just take me to a long incline on the road. like i remember it was pretty high for a kid. maybe 2 meters difference over the high and low over around 10 meters of ramp. she told me to ride my bike and just pushed me down. with the speed and the fear response i finally "get" it. the feel, the balance, etc and i was able to ride that day.

that is how i kinda understand baby bird feel learning to fly

One of my earliest memories is riding a 2 wheeler at the park when I was 3.

It was a huge accomplishment for me because my 5 year old brother still had his training wheels on.

My brother grew up to be a total douchebag, so thinking about that still brings a smile to my face.

Dont remember how old I was. Just felt like trying one day, so I asked my grandma to take off my training wheels. She did and I found out biking without training wheels is basically the same as biking with them.

I got my first bike for Christmas 1981, I think. I didn't make any attempt to learn how to ride until the summer of 1985, though. I managed to get the hang of it, despite gashing my left knee so bad I had to get 10 stitches.

I was 6, and had those breakaway training wheels. I thought them breaking away and me continuing to ride was a miracle, hah.

I might have been 6 or 7. I don't know if that's early or late to learn.

My parents had me riding on the sidewalk in front of the house - which was on a busy major boulevard through town. It is absolutely a miracle that I didn't stray into traffic or fall into the road and get mollywhopped or killed.

This was the 70's too, so no helmet, knee pads or any of that shit I see kids with today.

My parents were young kids fresh out of college when they had me, so they often did shit that would be considered negligent or stupid today. It was probably negligent and stupid back then too.

It was at a cram school at my friend's place. I was fourteen
The teacher wanted to photocopy something at a photocopy shop so I volunteered to borrow my friend's bicycle, learn to ride it and photocopy it for her.
Without training wheels, I spent that entire 1.5-2 hour session learning to ride by myself while my friends studied. By the time I figured it out, the session is over.

IDK what I was thinking back then, but all's well that ends well I guess >_>

I literally told her what I was gonna do. Keep in mind this is a small group of like 6 students, not like a big class so I can get away with it easily. Plus, we all knew the teacher well so she just let me do whatever; kids gotta kids I guess.

The only remaining kid in the group that doesn't know how to ride a bicycle was pretty salty about it lmao.

Lived with my grandparents when i was little, they got me a bike when i was about 6, but it was meant for me when i got a little older. They propped it up alongside the back doorsteps and let me look at it, but told me it was too big for me to learn to ride yet. When they went inside, i climbed on, pushed off the steps, and pedalled once. For some reason, it took like a second for me to realise that as long as i kept pedalling, i could keep balance. So i kept pedalling.

I got to the end of the driveway and realised how easy it was to turn if you only moved the handlebars a little, so i looped around on the front lawn. I looked up and saw my horrified grandmother looking out from one of the windows. She ran outside, called for my grandfather and stood there on the front steps, looking stunned. Grandfather followed and just stood there with a big grin on his face.

After turning on the front lawn a few times, I thought i had pushed my luck enough for one day, so i biked up to a soft spot on the lawn, slowed down and gently toppled off when the bike fell.

The bike was oversized enough that when a pedal was all the way down, i couldn't reach it with my foot, so i had to push one pedal until the other one came up enough for my other foot. I was riding like that for about a year before i could actually reach properly. I also couldn't stop unless i found a fence to lean against, a set of steps or a deep gutter to mitigate the height, or a soft spot to fall off onto.

It became normal for me to bike home from school (yes, they let me ride to and from school alone on a bike i couldn't ride normally!) and just casually crash into a grassy mound in our back yard before running inside to watch cartoons.

Reminded me i borrowed ny friends spare bike just to find out the brake is busted i have to manually slow down by looping and when it slow enough i slowly brake with my sandals

Yeah, I think I was 11 or something

My mom's old bike (hot pink with high handlebars and a banana seat: super 70s) was just kinda collecting dust in our garage, so I pulled it out and figured out how to ride it in a couple days

I had had a much smaller bike when I was around 5 with training wheels but I hated it and never used it
