Literally the only fast food chain I've ever been to where they haven't had damped doors

He means the things that stop doors slamming shut, so the last bit is REEEEEEEEEEEEEAL slow.

damped?
Damping makes doors close slowly instead of slamming shut.

Dampened?

I can only assume you mean the pneumatic system at the top to assist and prevent it from banging around like some harlot.

The emissions from the 11 herbs and spices burning off has the side effect of eroding modern door dampening technology.

KFC actually has tons invested in R&D to combat this problem.

No, it's to do with hydraulic/pneumatic systems. You'd probably have heard of it if you've played a racing game with tuning, since they usually have rebound and damping for shock absorbers. That's partially why I knew the term as it basically means a system to reduce movement via gasses.

There's other methods, but those ones I mentioned are gassy. I was a bit distracted by burning hotdogs and bubble cubes.

As a ticketed Carpenter:

Its damping. Dampening is why happens when something gets wet. It's never been dampening.

Also, the closers are hydraulic, not pneumatic.

And they all adjustable. 3 screws on the end closest to the hinge, and a 5mm Allen head on the long side usually. The Allen head screw adjusts the force needed to open the door, and the other 3 set the backcheck, the closing speed, and the latch speed.

Tons of guys are too lazy to set doors so they don't bother.

They can have spring hinges.

I work at a place that build doors and windows and our exterior doors come with spring hinges and we don't ever bother with the hydraulic thingy closer thing.

Looks better too.

It's both in this case.
Dampening can also refer to sound. Damping refers to the physically slowing down the door, which then dampens sound.

Pianos have dampers, I brought that up in Shablagoo's topic about his haunted piano a few weeks ago.

That's a residential thing mostly. For attached garage in particular.

One like this.

We use them on heavy steel or solid core doors.

Mostly on businesses and offices.

Don't see why not on a gas station or restaurant door instead of ugly hovering hydraulics that get bent up or malfunction.

Yeah those aren't getting used on an exterior door here.
