I owe about $1100 after differencing my federal and state.

FTR, I'm lower middle and I owed much more this year than last year, and far more than a few years ago.

Yeah I know because it's impossible to prove out your shitpost because the math doesn't lie.

Considering the changes, it's pretty much impossible without either (A) lying about it or (B) not understanding the numbers on your tax return.

But go ahead and say your taxes went up even with lowered tax rates on your brackets.

Here's a hypothetical if you made $50K a year for fun:

Bruh I dunno what to tell you. In 2017 and 2018 I made about the same amount and my tax return was significantly smaller.

I accepted a large promotion last year so I don't have an apples to apples comparison for 2019.

So you're comparing your refund yearly? That isn't your liability which means you're misinterpreting your return. That just means you had less withheld overall so yes you did pay less and you also had less withheld during the year.

But my paychecks were about the same for those 2 years.

I dunno why I'm debating this with an average Trump supporter. Others have said they paid more too and it's not hard to find articles on it either.

So they were different? Good to know. Seems like you got a few hundred back when you filed and the rest throughout the year then.

I dunno why you're debating literal math but ok keep deflecting about it.

Seems like this article is relevant for you: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/14/business/economy/income-tax-cut.html

The difference insignificant, but again there's plenty of articles and even other posters speaking contrary to your belief

So you did get a cut like idgi why are you clinging to anecdotal evidence? Like you're being bashed in the face with the calculations and you just keep bringing up "muh 'articles' and other posters"

Can you show me these articles? I showed you one that again shows you're wrong.

What do you mean "less than you deserve"
If you have a kid you get a $2,000 tax credit. For several people in my age group who make $40,000/year but have like 3 kids + married? You're talking $30,800 in tax credits for a year, and then on top of that those same families also qualify for SNAP and WICK benefits which is even more $$$$.

People with kids aren't poor because kids cost a lot of money. They're poor because they're shit with money management.

Just did my returns: almost $800 refund. I already upgraded my aging HTPC earlier this week ($445 net cost so far) in anticipation of a refund of that size. I'm going to buy a new SSD with the leftovers since I wasn't entirely sure how much I was getting back before today.
