It's basically the animation style laughing at itself rather than being deformed. Kinda like how Dragon Ball pointed out Krillin's lack of nose.

Arnold's face evolved throughout the show. His face in season 1 looks like he couldn't get through a door but it looks more compressed by the end of the show and even less so in the new movie. They all looked more chibi which seems to come about in all forms of western animation if you wait long enough.

Which is realistic because that's what kids do. It's a lesson that needs to be learned that they shouldn't make fun of others because of some feature like race, shape, etc etc.

Yeah but there's always kids that defend those kids too. Nobody was bothered by it in Hey Arnold, even the adults made fun of his football head and there was never a lesson about it that I remember
