started playing it a few days ago. it's crazy how much i remember from playing the gameboy game 20+ years ago.

at work i cant remember a 6 digit number 5 minutes after someone tells it to me, but somehow im able to recall all these seashell locations from a game i played when i was like 9 years old

Yeah, it's an insanely faithful remake. It's weird how a lot of stuff I didn't think I remembered just came flooding back. I completely breezed through the trading quest out of memory.

I wasn't a huge fan but I had never played the original.

I felt like if this was a brand new game released this year and had nothing to do with Zelda, it would get a 65% metacritic and be quickly forgotten

And the "beautiful" remastered graphics are like OG Wii graphics...

Links Awakening is one of my favorite games ever but it hard to ignore the god awful performance drops that seem to happen constantly in the over world. And it seems like it happens regardless of playing handheld or docked.

Wii would catch fire in like a minute doing these graphics even at 480p.

Like the game could run on Wii obviously because it's a a gameboy remake but the resolution would be sub HD and the lighting/particles/effects/etc. and texture quality would take a huge hit compared to Switch

I agree, this remake was great

My only grips w this game are being unable to share/swap dungeons online and acquiring rupees in general(to buy the last few chamber stones lol)

yea the frame rate is really bad, especially in areas with a lot going on like the graveyard

i kind of agree b/c it does feel like a low-spec gameboy game in a lot of ways, but the game has a vibe that i dont think any other zelda has been able to touch since

I loved Link's Awakening as a kid, but there is just not enough game to justify $60

Also, in retrospect, a lot of the design choices only exist because the game was released on GameBoy, making it one of the weaker 2D Zelda games when extracted from that limiting platform.

I had a blast with it. Just hoping that they do the same with the even better Oracles.

i replayed the gameboy one like a year ago in preparation for the remake but the more i seen about it the more i can't see paying $60 for it. just not enough added to it and the performance issues. i do wanna pick it up eventually though. would give me a reason to play my switch that i haven't played in nearly a year now.

Yeah, the game barely runs on Switch as it is lmao.

The performance issues really brings down the game for me but the artstyle is pleasing and the gameplay+QoL changes are nice. Still best Zelda on Switch IMO.
