Rian Johnson purposefully butchered JJ's intentions for the trilogy and JJ had to pull a bunch of bullshit to salvage some sort of coherent plot out of it.

No it's cos JJ is a jack who can't write satisfying resolutions and his 'intended' trilogy ending would still just be a bunch of hollow reveals

JJ had no intentions for the rest of the trilogy because he didn't think he'd be back.

I seriously doubt he had zero intention or ideas for, at the very least, Snoke

TLJ was a good movie though. The first 10 minutes of RoS pretty much spits in the face of the resolution earned in the second movie of the trilogy.

RoS feels like a whole separate trilogy crammed into one movie.

The dude left everything for the next guy to think about

Who is Rey
Who is Snoke
Why is Luke exiled
Etc.

It wasn't his job to plot out the trilogy.

TROS wasn't just a bad follow up to The Last Jedi it was a bad follow up to TFA. Snoke doesn't somehow derail an entire movie he had planned in his head.

I don't think RJ did it intentionally. He just sucked at the task and came up with whatever mess he could. Both Boyega and Hamill have said that they didn't really like where it went. Shit, Daisy started crying when she heard JJ was back because it brought her comfort and security.

JJ had written drafts for all 3, but had changed his mind on doing 8 and 9. They had to double beg him back for 9. As in they asked and he said no again till his wife convinced him.

This logic is shit and super millennial. While I don't envy the position JJ was in with Rise of Skywalker he did literally nothing right in his approach.

Also, Star Wars is a franchise that is owned by one of the largest entertainment corporations in the world. If Johnson was given no oversight, no directions, never questioned and allowed to do whatever the fuck he wanted, that's their fault.

Yeah that dude just kinda showed up and got stabbed to death without accomplishing jack-shit. I went into Ep 8 with no expectations one way or the other and it was still amusingly disappointing, and of course Rey is just OP as fuck again, oh and Leia force-flying through the vacuum of space was hilariously dumb.

Its bad for many reasons, but its watchable. Still, I dont think Ill ever understand why they spent half the movie on finding MacGuffins instead of beefing up the characters.

Stand alone, sure it wasn't bad. As the 2nd part in a trilogy, it was a mess(& JJ's band aid shows it). I think that TLJ's OMG moments could have been better utilized as the 3rd part to the trilogy (think another Revenge of the Sith downer end into a New Hope). Didn't Lucas say the saga should rhyme? Would have made for a smoother "transitional trilogy" imo. Because believe it or not, some of us old fans also know that eventually you must...

TC must be new to JJ. Abrams doesnt do planning, he sets things up with his mystery boxes and leaves it to others to build upon. The vague storytelling is his style and he attributes it to a story about an unopened gift given to him from his grandfather.

Also JJ isnt good at writing and neither is the guy who wrote Batman vs. Superman & Justice League.

Rian Johnson could have followed up on stuff from The Force Awakens but he didnt. JJ could have followed up on stuff from The Last Jedi but he didnt.

How about using the stuff from Ep. 8 about the galaxy needing a legend. Rey adopts the legendary Skywalker name and helps rally more people for the Resistance, which would play into that scene of all those ships showing up for the final battle. She still ends up choosing her identity.

How about Canto Bight and the revelation that the military industrial complex is supplying both the First Order & the Resistance. JJ could have incorporated that into explaining how Palpatine was able to build his new grand armada while keeping both the Resistance & First Order distracted & in the dark. Palpatine did the same thing in Ep. 2 and that whole movie is about how both sides were secretly amassing their armies. As terrible as that movie was at least it explained it.
