I changed schools between first and second grade.

I used to get in trouble pretty regularly in second grade. I'd finish my work ahead of other kids and distract them by talking to them. But I'd get in trouble for reading, quietly, to myself(I don't talk under my voice when reading so that wasn't it). Probably wound up in ISS like 25 times that grade for being a normal kid.

Then in third grade, pretty early on in the year, due to my penchant for catching on to material quick and finishing work early and distracting other kids, they made me sit in a desk, in the back corner of the room, marked off with red tape that I wasn't allowed to go outside of during normal class periods/teachings. Group project stuff I was allowed to participate in, but like 80% of the time or more I was stuck in like a 4' x 4' square, if even that big.

Things weren't so bad after that. Though I'm sure that two year patch in a key developmental time of growth did wonders for my social skills, considering I was already struggling socially due to a speech impediment, that I've mostly grown out of now.

I'm not even certain we had a dress code outside of too short skirts or something.

Stopped by the elementary school one day when I was in high school, because my mom was substitute teaching there, and legit had kids strolling by in short shorts and I was like "what the fuck this is allowed?"

BUT, I grew up muslim. So when I was younger (in between grades 2-4), I went to a very conservative muslim school in Canada. It was mostly normal, just with added islamic studies and prayer. EXCEPT, I remember very vividly being kind of scared by this one guy who I thought was a random teacher (thinking back on it, I'm pretty sure he was the principal) who'd occasionally just interrupt our classes to do his own lecture. Or maybe it was planned, but that's not important.

One time, he showed us a very violent video of muslims getting slaughtered. I was super creeped out. But anyways, he said that this is how we were treated and how it's wrong to just attack people because of their religion. Kind of extreme but I guess the message is good, right?

Well, his lesson didn't end there. After a day or 2, he'd show us another video, this time it's of muslims going into other temples and slaughtering these people praying to statues. I don't remember the religion that the muslims were attacking. The teacher/principal basically said because these other people were praying to god in the wrong way, we had to follow gods instruction and kill them. They were sinners, so they had to die.

This teacher/principal was deranged af.

That's... fucking horrifying. Christ.

Closest I could come is when my Sunday School teachers wanted to discuss what Hell was like. Fear didn't work, ladies, I'm still a heathen athiest.

yep this started becoming a more common rule to follow. back then you could have holes in your pants within the knee and it be fine. it was after 2004 that it became standard.

first year in public school (5th grade), my teacher secretly tried to convince my mother to put me on adhd meds - that didn't happen thankfully

context: parents neglected to enroll me in the advanced program (i was in an equivalent at my private school before moving states) so i breezed through regular coursework, and simultaneously became hyperfocused on non-curricular things (creative writing, reading, chess) which my teacher wasn't fond of. teacher was also pissed off for some reason that i skipped recess in favor of staying in the classroom for the aforementioned activities.

speaking of which, before the stratification based on competence in the previous private school, i got detention for working well ahead of the rest of the class

not me, but in 1st grade i witnessed a student getting physically assaulted by a teacher at the private school. nothing was done about it. a few years later a couple other instructors got busted for sexually abusing students during the same timeframe.

4th grade teacher confiscated some classmates' mtg cards during recess for being "un-christian". was around the same time as the anti-pokemon hysteria. i'm not sure they ever got them back.

got written up in 5th grade for getting upset over a classmate stealing my **** in class

got written up or detention for telling a classmate to stop disturbing me in class - the reason: talking in class

dealt with bullying/harassment on the bus throughout middle school; towards the end of 8th grade i finally threw punches, and got suspended. administration temporarily confiscated my mp3 player.

got detention for printing "hundreds of pages" based on an false accusation by a dumb classmate. it was revoked when i contested and the teacher actually investigated the claim.

middle school honors band rejected otherwise qualified students from poor families that wouldn't be able to afford planned cross-country trips.

high school was pretty chill from a school system standpoint, with the exception of some teachers' bs grading policies (markdowns and giving me legitimately hostile attitude for doing work in my head though i've recently encountered evidence that the teacher in question may have just been racist, marking down writing for "lacking voice" and other frivolous criteria, etc.)

complaints by other students in high school: a teacher that practiced sexist grading; another teacher that was notorious for pervy behavior around the girls in his class. in recent years there was an actual shooting (nobody was harmed) and the administration unsuccessfully attempted to cover it up.

younger brother was suspended for disputing the claim that teachers aren't well-paid and citing actual figures.

college was pretty alright, way less bs than high school, though there was one bizarre course in software design patterns. the details escape me, but the department audited the course and concluded it was impossible to get all the answers correct on tests in the class. bizarre and universally incomprehensible lectures on top of that. nobody really knew what was going on in that class. professor in question wrote me a nice recommendation letter though.

not bs, but one of the programming professors was a world class scatterbrain. went off on a lengthy tangent on "eenie meenie miney mo" and its racist origins while explaining an algorithm. a peer in a later class recalled how the professor had once gone off on a tangent that culminated in him explaining in great detail to the class how it was anatomically possible to have sex with a horse. his official website resembles a crazy man's geocities website.

In 5th or 6th grade I was placed in a group with other troublesome kids. We had meetings in the teacher's lounge, and once in a while I'd have personal time with a counselor. I never knew why I was in there since there was nothing wrong with me. In comparison the other kids I was surrounded by were known to be loud, violent, heavily behind on homework, or disrupting classes. I usually kept to myself and only had about 3 friends in class. At least half of the others hated me for unknown reasons and often taunted and teased me during class. It's what led to me seeking out friends in other grades. Of the 3 friends I mentioned one of them turned on me in Grade 6 and became worse than all the others combined. The teachers were oblivious to how they treated me.

Despite great grades, I failed a semester of classes due to attendance. I even made a perfect score on one of the state exams but that didn't matter. Luckily, I was able to make it up the next semester. They pulled me out of a computer class where I might have learned something useful and put me in the make-up "class." It consisted entirely of learning modules on a laptop where you read up on a subject, then took a test on what you read.

Not only did I already know all the info since I'd actually passed the classes, the tests were laughably easy. I think I finished all of them in a month or two. So for the rest of the semester, my first period consisted of watching the Monster anime on DailyMotion.

I went to a Catholic grade school and when we where in 2nd Grade they banned Pokmon cards from school.

We had a table in the lunchroom where we had to put our recess toys while we were eating. Some kid foolishly put down his deck of Pokmon cards on the table. This nun named Sister Mary-Elizabeth eyes the cards like a hawk, sprints over to the table with the speed of a cheetah, and snatches his deck with the speed of a cobra strike.

WHOS POGEYMAN CARDS ARE THESE!?!?, she screamed.

....m-mine maam, the kid sheepishly replied.

WELL THEY'RE MINE NOW!!
*proceeds to violently throw the deck of cards into her nun robe*

*kid proceeds to sit back down at the lunch table sobbing hysterically*

We did at the Christian school I went to for 2 years. Every Wednesday we had pretty much a church service that they made us dress up for. It sucked, and I hated having to dress up just for that. We eventually found a loophole and were able to wear sweaters without needing to tuck them in. I wore them every Wednesday after that, lol.

We had this administrator dick who was basically the next step down from vice principal and he suspended my account over a weekend because of an email that was sent to me that I didn't even open or see.

The subject line was "(homophobic slur in all caps) wants your dick." The girl who sent it to me did not actually mean it as a slur. A mutual friend of ours literally has that as his actual initials >_>. She sent it at the very end of the day on a Friday. I had signed myself out earlier for a doc appointment which the office had record of, so between that record and the email time stamp, the douche administrator had all the information he needed to determine that it would have been impossible for me to have read it, as my account was already suspended when I showed up Monday morning.

I was pretty pissed off and I told him that I had plenty of private emails so I wanted the school email program completely removed from my account because it was voyeuristic of him to read my received emails before I could. He said "well you could just use it appropriately" and I was like "what part of 'I didn't send the email and didn't even read it or know it existed' are you not understanding? If I was gonna do inappropriate stuff, I wouldn't use the school email... and in fact I don't really use it anyway because I have my own email addresses."

He didn't end up deleting the program but he had to restore my account immediately after the meeting because he knew he was completely in the wrong.

Funny thing is, I was hardly innocent. The only reason he was in my email was because I also got a bunch of bulk spam messages, sent by 3 freshmen in a CAD class I was taking. I actually showed them how to do it and sent all of them spam from the accounts of the others first. This crashed the entire school server. They got their accounts suspended too but since I never sent anything from my account, the admin had nothing on me, so I was restored but the 3 freshmen had to wait weeks to get their accounts back >_>

Nothing too bad for me personally, although my school was crazy sometimes for others. One time in highschool, my bag got searched because someone brought bullets to school. Some teacher found them and later that week we were called down to the auditorium and each of us were called in one by one to the office. I thought they'd just dump our stuff right on the desk but they just did a half-ass search. Also when they were done I missed most of my lunch, and scarfed a pizza down my throat in about two minutes.

Turns out later that it was an absolute waste of time for my class to get called down because our class was after the teacher found the bullets.
