Which is the best Tales game?

Let's be fair, it's one of those three or you are wrong.

Unless you only care about playing coop with others in which case some of the mechanics of some of the other titles MIGHT make it better, but... not really.

Symphonia mediocre.
Abyss good story (For a generic JRPG at least)
Vesperia good gameplay.
Tales OK.

I've played every Tales game except for the ones with no English translation. I think Graces f is easily the best.

That story is such fucking garbage. I hated basically every minute of it. The combat mechanics were awesome, but the narrative and characters were insufferable.

Of those, I'd say Vesperia > Symphonia > Abyss, but all three are great.

Vesperia has a good cast and phenomenal gameplay.

Symphonia has a great cast and story, but its gameplay is a bit dated by now sadly.

Abyss is kind of in the middle, with having a solid cast/story and solid but also a bit dated gameplay. I feel bad calling it the worst, because I really really enjoy it, but I think I'm more attached to the others.

Overall for the series, I'd probably say Vesperia > Berseria > Xillia 2 > Xillia 1 > Hearts DS > Symphonia > Abyss > Innocence DS > Zestiria > Graces f > Legendia (though I only rented it for like a day and didn't get super far in at all, I just really disliked what I played of it) > Phantasia GBA > Tempest

Haven't played the others.

I like most of them, but Zestiria was highly flawed with some solid points in its favor like a great OST and an interesting world, Graces f had an atrocious cast/story and a solid gameplay system that was dragged down by everyone who wasn't Asbel being half-mage and wasting the battle system's potential, Legendia I barely touched but disliked, Phantasia GBA was a mess, and Tempest I only played a bit with my friend but barely functioned as a game.

That story is such fucking garbage. I hated basically every minute of it. The combat mechanics were awesome, but the narrative and characters were insufferable.
the story and characters in basically every single game in the series are slow-paced, stupid, repetitive, and trashy
graces's story was not particularly bad, though it did have some noteworthy bad parts like basically all the lambda shit (his voice is insufferable) and the weird romance drama, and there's that dumb part where the game tries to make you sympathize with the mass-murderer with asbel expressing that he and lambda are not so different and that asbel could have easily fallen onto the same murderous path

vesperia was fun but took way too long to open up, even in the rerelease
the jokes about the "let's go back to the inn" stuff weren't even an exaggeration
the writing for the characters was mostly okay but it feels like a lot of side characters are extraordinarily underdeveloped and forgotten about, and the thing with yuri taking justice into his own hands was surprisingly not that important
level design gets pretty annoying later

symphonia's really basic and the bad multiplayer camera alone really hurts the experience (after all, why would you play these games at all if not in multiplayer?)
level design seems to get increasingly more annoying as the game goes on, with lots of weird moments of backtracking and filler as the game starts nearing its closing
the plot was kinda hideously generic but it's serviceable, even if they still try to do the stupid thing of trying to make you sympathize with the stupid crybaby who can't get over something that happened thousands of years ago and insists on killing and mentally destroying everyone he can

abyss was just so boring i didn't get past a few hours
i did some haunted house and some really annoying little girl joined the party, and then i just stopped playing and never touched it again

I've never played any of the Tales games multiplayer, and I've only missed out on Berseria in terms of the main series.
