What you mean is people make exceptions to what they like regardless of flaws. What I don't understand is why not just say this plainly and accept it? Why try to use a reason to hate something when you know you'd make exceptions for games you like?

I actually started a new playthrough of Xenogears just a few days ago, lol.

It's not a great game at its core--in fact, it sucks pretty hard at its core--but I love the story and music and stuff lol.

You can hate and love different aspects of a thing. Why can't you understand that? It's a simple concept you could apply to several other subjects.

I love the plot but hate the prose, love the flavor but hate the texture, love the scenery but hate the locals

On the topic of Pokemon, I considered getting into it a while back. I played a little blue about fifteen years ago and liked it well enough but never bothered to finish the Dex so I figured why not try to actually finish the whole Dex? You can trade between generations I think, and collecting is totally my thing, so yeah, why not?

Well as I was digging in to figure out how all this works, I came across a thread via Google search asking if you can really catch them all. Why wouldn't you, I wondered.

Turns out a lot of them were one-time giveaways. No longer had interest in getting into Pokemon lol.

I guess one thing that's kind of unintentionally cool about Xenogears is that one major point of the story--at least early on--is that fighting in Gears is no fun but you gotta do it, while this is actually quite true in gameplay as well lol.

This is the most irrelevant argument I've ever seen lol. In the end, you'll either buy the dlc because you think its worth it, or you won't because you believe it is not.

It is hypocritical to shame cutting content for dlc's and then also buy those dlc's. However, being hypocritical is not some great sin, we all make exceptions for the things we truly want. If a game I greatly enjoy has a dlc, I'll probably buy it regardless of company practices (to a point, I do have a limit). Ultimately it all depends on your level of investment in the franchise.

You are describing nonconflicting opinions, but taking issue with them and trying to paint faulty logic where there is none.

Hypocrisy is a type of contradiction. Find the contradiction to call hypocrisy.

There is no contradiction in liking one aspect of a thing and disliking another.
