From a story structure perspective, yes Thanos is the protagonist. He is at the center of the story, makes the key decisions, and experiences the consequences of those decisions. Even the screenwriters confirmed this is how they wrote it.

I don't think so, I have only seen the movie once, but Peter Parker is definitely the central part of the movie. Peter Parker's conflict with how to answer the call to be a hero (from Nick Fury and Tony Stark) while also balancing his friendships, relationship, and personal life is the main theme. Seems like a pretty basic hero's journey honestly.
