I'm currently in between books, that's the problem. Half my brain wants to move on to the next book and the other half wants to focus on editing the previous book. I'm not full in on either project.

I'm revamping one of my books now since I'm on holiday. It's a sci fi comedy/dramedy. I know it's been done to death but hey, I'm having a great time.

Thinking about trying NaNoWriMo this year. Any tips on how to outline the story so when November rolls around I can just put words to screen?

The way I outline is just make a paragraph for every chapter or chunk of chapters. Just outline the whole book that way, and you can kinda gauge how many words each paragraph will end up being, that way you can plan your way to the word count.

Damn I'm happy. Finally finished off draft 4 of the novel I've been hacking away at for the past 5 years. One last draft I think will get it humming, and then time to try my luck with agents.

I hated what I'd written until this draft and I finally think it's coming together to a good place.

man i wish my replacement motherboard would get here sooner rather that later. i'm still over here physically writing down notes in a notebook like some kind of technophobe. i got in a really good one last night though.

the large-scale collaborative casting of magic plays a very important role in military engagements in my setting, and i have previously established the first significant deployment of this as being an event analogous to the Fall of Constantinople, something that was a huge paradigm shift and which marked the end of an era in the eyes of many historians. i've also established a scholarly culture in the current era of my setting and a related educational system heavily based on the class divisions posited by Plato in The Republic to be what the ideal society needs, being basically workers, soldiers and leaders. and i realized last night that there is a very good throughline here.

in my setting, magic is treated like a science and a scholarly pursuit. people need to be formally educated in order to use magic effectively. many capable magic users need to be available in order to facilitate large-scale collaborative casting. so in essence, what that means is the scholarly culture of my setting would have been predicated on education itself becoming a military necessity. that's some good stuff right there.

That all sounds neat as long as you have some interesting characters and plot that uses it!

Character is number one when writing a book, imo.

Finally at the point where my successive drafts are more like whittling than chopping. Getting published is still a crapshoot but I stand by my work. The ending needs help still, though. Saving too much resolution for book 2.

Well the timing is pretty good, as I just now literally hit the publish button on my second novel, the sequel to my first one from earlier this year. It's in the 72 hour review and publish phase on Amazon. Now to get started on my third book, which will be a standalone prequel.

And I might as well @Romes187

What's the status on your book? Publish it!

Man I took a writing detour and have been nose deep in music theory for some time now. Need to get back into but waiting to get some time to read it to my wife to hear her thoughts
