Well my dad wasn't around and my mom, not exactly perfect herself, did her best raising 4 kids alone. If anything, I'm learning what not to do from them.

I'm 36 and still at home. I have trouble finding work.

Dad worked initially but had a number of issues growing up and just kind of hated life at times. He wasn't much of a parent. Bought me an NES when I was 4 as a way of bonding with me, but gave up quickly. He essentially retired himself at 39. Put on some coveralls, grew out his beard and stopped working. Drank a lot over the years. Smoked until 2010 when he had breathing issues during the flu. He just quit. Died in 2015 at 59 from a massive heart attack. I don't really miss him. In the years before his death he did landscaping jobs around the neighborhood. He had hobbies in wood work, drawing, and painting. Wasn't really interested in anything I did. I've tried moving in the past to get on with my life and at times asked for assistance. He came up with various excuses to keep me here as he was lazy and needed someone to take up his slack.

As for mom she's 65, but retired at 63 after breaking her ankle. Growing up she worked a few jobs. When we moved the first time she stopped working and was a stay-at-home mom. My dad kept things afloat with his work, but I get the feeling he was annoyed she didn't have a job. When we moved here in '95 she got a job as he refused to work. Never took time off, and she was good at what she did. Nowadays we try to get by here as we have the property up for sale.

Overall I was raised differently. I was never grounded or had an allowance. They weren't the type to help with homework. Didn't save for our futures. I have my own problems, but seem to have turned out okay. My sister on the other hand is just like him. A rude obnoxious sociopathic hoarder.
