Just finished the hide and seek quest. Getting the hang of the combat, seems easily exploitable if you dodge, hit, dodge and occasional spells here and there

speaking of spells, are any of the signs worth upgrading? So far I only leveled up gent

if you upgrade the hypnotizing ability, you can sometimes use it during dialogue.

and iirc, I just mostly upgraded that, also since you can hypnotize an enemy to fight for you if you're dealing with multiple threats and the shield thing, since you can eventually heal while you have it up and you're being attacked

I feel the combat is more of a rythm game after a while where you have different ways to approach it depending on the pack of enemies and their moveset. One good skill for ranged enemies is the one where you can block arrows, if you upgrade it full you can reflect arrows with a block and do double damage with it when you time it right. I also personally love to upgrade Igni as well, the alt fire for it isn't too bad either.

The combat feels like the early assassin creed games plus magic

which isnt a compliment. The attacks arent satisfying at all. I think they need to up the controller vibration or something, idk.

anyways I just banged Keira, then killed her lol

If you play on PC I highly recomend mouse and KB, I had this game on PS4 first and now on PC, the game is so much better with mouse and KB. Don't forget to use bombs and stuff. Things like using the bomb that makes gas and then using igni on it to blow it up is a nice strategy as well etc.

Don't forget the main meat of the game: Gwent.

It helps if you buy cards. Many armor/weapon shops and most inns sell cards.

But generally, if you're having trouble it's best to try to bait the AI into over committing on a round or strategy. Before you play people with good cards, you can sometimes pull this off with weather cards, especially if they don't draw a Clear Weather or you happen to have 2 of a useful weather card.

Eventually, when/if you get spies, decoys, and legendaries, weather cards are pretty useless. But in the early game they help imo.

Quen protects you from one hit from anything, and at higher levels, you can sustain it to heal. It's pretty awesome and invaluable on most difficulties. One of the signs (Axii?) can let you temporarily control 1-2 enemies and make them fight for you. It might not be as useful as it could be, due to wonky AI, but if you want a little help in fights, enemies killing their buddies has its perks.

If you want Gwent strategies, spies, decoys and medics (which get spies from grave) are the way to go. A lot of people use Northern Realms, but I always used Nilfgaard, since the ruler's power can steal a card (or put it on the battlefield? I forget) from an enemy's graveyard. Since spies you use go into the enemy's graveyard, it's an ace in the hole for card advantage.

But yeah, you'll probably get your ass kicked early on since Geralt's default deck has a bunch of hot garbage, like those 1-power infantry units. Do the Gwent quests and slowly accumulate decent cards; you can get a few heros from the main storyline missions, too. (If you're offered a choice, naturally go for cards over other rewards.) The innkeep in Oxenfurt has the Yennefer card, IIRC.
