I wish I knew where this testimonial was posted, but I once read about an anti-abortion activist protesting an abortion clinic every day, until her own teen daughter got pregnant. Then, she discreetly went into that very clinic to have the procedure done on her daughter, while at the same time saying that this didn't change anything, what they did were abominations, and that she would be back out there with the protestors when all is said and done. Sure enough, the next day, she was out there protesting again.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 could be on the radar as well, under the guise of "We don't need it anymore; society is not as racist as it was back then, and minorities have more choices and freedoms now."

Could you imagine if they went after interracial marriage, though? Though they may make an exemption for White men.

What actually needs to happen, is a realization that marriage doesn't need to be a function of government at all, apart from maybe being a DPOA and probate shortcut.

With the amount of single issue abortion voters, I don't think the Republicans will ever actually seriously try to overturn Roe v. Wade. It's just too easy a source of votes.

Were it actually overturned, it should become a state issue, but Gonzales v. Raich fucked that all up.

Republicans want that small government, but also want to control your choice on pregnancy (taking away abortion rights), establish who you can marry and who you cant (not allowing gay marriage), and who you can legally discriminate and who you cant (taking away CRA, protected classes, etc).

In one of Dave Chappelle's recent specials he talked about this, how politicians are taking away abortion rights as an action in revolt to the cultural dynamics of today. I assume he's talking specifically about how far liberalism has dominated culture to the point where other less popular opinions aren't tolerated.

The future is looking pretty bleak; how do we reconcile? Obviously calling them the villains isn't helping anyone and can be detrimental as told by 2016's elections.

There is no way to reconcile abortion rights. Either everyone gets it or no one does. I can't imagine a satisfactory compromise when one side is convinced its baby murder. If we had enough of a culture shift as to where we could compromise on abortion, then abortion would just wind up being legal with little resistance.

Religion dude. My family disagree with abortion because of god or some shit. And there are a lot of religious nuts out there. There's a gay Jesus on netflix and for some reason, freedom of speech and whatever freedom we have, its just not right. Its horrible.

If there's a bad experience with anything, its my experience with religion.
