We have to understand that they are not real authoritans, they are not paid professionals. They are selected volunteers and should be held to the same standard as any user if you ask me. They are not a policeman, not a judge, not any sort of lawman or any type of real life security.

In any online message board system there will ALWAYS be inconsistencies. Also factor in that every person is different that comes with their own bias and point of view which will lead to some violating posts be modded and some not and other things that may come off unfair or inconsistent. Yes we'd all love a black and white cut down middle of rules where everyone is modded and treated the same but you know that will not happen and it's mostly because we are human.

A lot of things in life is unfair from big to small things and sometimes it's best to power right through them. Shrug it off and keep on trucking. Trying to call out the bullshit is hardly ever worth the fight and you won't get nothing from it. So if you ever feel like you've been unfairly modded it's prolly best to shrug it off and move on. Don't repeat it obviously but at the same time learn how to say things in a better safer way.

Sometimes ignorance comes off as not having common sense. That's why I petitioned for mods who post on CE to be only able to mod CE posts. Mods outside of CE will look a CE post and prolly think the worst things.

I would agree if they also didnt abuse their powers, and applied logic/common sense/thought a little bit at all before modding people. And were transparent.
But they dont/arent, so they have no right to complain that the userbase hates them
For a lot of mods, moderations are just a "win argument" button they press when they see a user they dont like making a post they disagree with. When they mod a user they dont actually have to construct counterarguments after all

But I think that has a LOT to do with being human or being someone like you and me. From the outside looking in of course we'll call it out as is but what if you were a mod? Do you think you could be any better? I think you're expecting too much from them.

Ive modded other sites, private game servers with thousands of users etc in the past and have done a better job. Its not hard at all to be a half decent person.

Why shouldn't they be given standards?
They wanted to do the job. So they should be doing it.
They blatantly give free passes.
Rules should be enforced equally, and stuff such as flaming and off topic aren't personal judgements.

They should be but there are too many factors that plays into it that makes it not.

It really depends what is said and which mods see's it. For example calling someone a balloon fart can be passed as joking or flaming.

Actually I believe it's gotten back to tamer times. Like I said, depending on the mod it can be considered a buddy buddy joke or an actual flame.

As for things being off topic, topicality is enforced on most game/console boards. If a board has the 'Community' flair, you can discuss pretty much anything (within reason) as long as your topic is flaired appropriately.

Dont know if it ever really started though. I had to put up with insults and my topics repeatedly getting disrupted because the ppl doing it had a free pass to do it (even when the rule was supposedly active) .
So... blocked a bunch of users because nothing was ever done to stop users trolling my topics.
