Most of them fail and a lot of younger people see it as an outdated practice. Should I even bother or should I just stick to banging random girls on tinder?

You can claim your spouse as a dependent

Obviously it isn't a reason to marry someone you don't actually love. It's just icing

Tax benefits

This point is so overblown. For any person who actually does the calculations. The difference for most people is literally a few hundred bucks annually.

This is a moot point for 2 reasons.

1) Trump got rid of personal exemptions in 2018

2) Even when personal exemptions were still a thing, your spouse would have already been claiming themselves as an exemption on their taxes. The value of those exemptions is the same no matter how you file, assuming youre both in the same marginal tax bracket.

Love does not exist in American culture. It's all about elevating your social class, using what benefits you were born with to exploit the other. Some people who are married play this constant bluffing game of never showing weakness so one can truly have the upper hand. As marriage failures are at an all time high, people are starting to see how ridiculous it is to presume that they will feel the same way forever.

Meanwhile, when you go to a place like Europe, you see people displaying public affection, actually seeming invested in one another.

Seems pointless to me unless you're ready to settle down and have children. The way I see it marriage is the beginning of starting a family. I dont really get the point of just marrying your gf or bf cause you're in love.

This is true. Marriage in the old days was more like a contract between families to carry on bloodlines. But they had their heads on way more straight than we do now.

Marriage is hard

That's what I've been told. My friend said it's the hardest thing she's ever done. But it's worth it. When you are actually with the right person.

Don't take marriage lightly.

Have the same goals, hopes, dreams, etc. Big picture stuff has to be very similar.

Not just because the sex is fun. That is a stupid reason to get married if it's the main reason.

My buddy who has been married like 15 years now was raised old school. So was his wife.

No such thing as divorce. Figure shit out. Together.

Love is greater than petty fights. If it's actually real and not just infatuation.

It's mainly there to protect the kids. There's no point as a couple, but as a family, kids are the winners. Two Christmases is like 23% more likely

If you're considering cheating figure out why.

Don't do it.

Work on shit together. He'll tell your spouse things are that bad. But don't actually do it.

Love is real. I truly believe that. Only started believing it a couple years ago.

But it is rare. I will say that as well.

I somewhat agree and disagree. You're definitly right that big picture aspirations have to be similar. I dont care how in love with someone you are or how good the sex is. Those things are gonna dwindle over time, if not dissapate entirely.

I only really disagree with the last two sentences I guess. The way I see it you can be in love with someone you shouldnt be with. I think a hard lesson I had to learn(along with most other people) is that being in love isnt always enough.

No I agree with you. Happened in my life with my ex.

I was in love with her. I think in her own way she loved me as well. But it was never going to work out.

You have to be able to go the distance with the person. Her and I were not meant to be. If I hadn't been blinded I would have realized that sooner than later.

Sounds like you're a bitter lonely american trying to blame why you're bitter and lonely on something as silly as nationality.

But maybe I'm wrong

Almost everything honestly. Kids. She hated small town life. Whereas I love visiting big cities but I'd never want to live in one. Lot of stuff.

Our similarities were superficial. Similar media interests. Video games, etx. That shit don't matter. Mom and dad can barely find anything they both like to watch and they've been together like 30 years now.
