Cancer isn't one disease. Will ALL cancers be cured in 100 years? Probably not.
I'm sure we'll make a lot of advances and some cancers will probably be cured within the next century. Itll probably also depend on how quickly the cancers are caught

Of course not; it's profitable.

There are many many many different forms of cancer, and we have some cure for some of them.
And then it matter how quick you find them.
A cure for all cancer forms? Probably not, but many of them.

Cancer isn't really something that can be cured since it's not really one illness but rather thousands of different kinds of abnormalities each with their own particular behaviors.

There's easier and more effective treatments becoming more common and cheaper every day though.

Immunotherapy, stem cells, gene editing, targeted radiation to name a few.

Particularly immunotherapy is where we're probably going to see a lot of exciting stuff in the coming years. To the point where it's likely going to replace a lot of chemotherapies. Just as (if not more) effective as chemo but without alot of the toxicity and side effects.

I mean I'm sure you didn't intend it with malice but a lot of folks who've either suffered or know someone who did do find that line of thinking pretty annoying

There aren't a bunch of surefire universal cancer cures just lying around in some CEOs desk.

It probably didn't end well for you because it was a touchy subject and also you aren't holding a logical position. Cancers that are caught early are often cured even now. I think it's weird that people seem so against the possibility that we dont have the technology to do something that they're willing to assume that we do have the technology to do so but that it's being hidden. What is it that makes you so sure? The fact that we have the internet or have went to the moon? The fact that we have vaccines? (Obviously far simpler tasks to accomplish) That's like living in an ancient society and thinking that since the wheel was invented, your society must also be capable of building a Boeing 747 but is just choosing not to so that the Big Horse companies can profit. It's always people who dont understand science who make this claim. In addition to obviously not understanding the science of cancer (yet still wanting to have debates about it as if you do), you also seem to forget that many other powerful entities, such as insurance companies and every rich person who doesn't work for pharmaceuticals, have an incentive to work for a cure. More people have an incentive to find a cure than those who don't.

People act like big pharma would prevent a cure from ever being produced. Or if it was, they would hide it.

Lets pretend there is a cancer cure all. What would be stopping big pharma from selling it for insane prices? Along with all the doctors that would need to diagnose, treat and reevaluate you over time.

Not sure about a catch-all cure but I expect that, certainly in a hundred years time, a large number of the more common cancers will be widely preventable via gene editing such will hopefully be affordable to most people in developed countries by then. The flaws in our DNA that can give birth to the start of cancers will be able to be switched off in our children.

I assume big pharma is an American thing. And if they had a cure, whats stopping other countries from finding one?

I honestly felt bad typing it and didnt even want to post it. Its fucking garbage but sometimes reality is.

Tons of people die from cancer yes, rich poor whatever. But that doesnt stop the people at the top of these cancer companies wanting to continue to fill their pockets with money.

Just think of how many businesses, how many foundations, how many people would be out of jobs and broke if cancer was cured. Again, its a fucked up thing but not everything in life is peaches and cream.

Absolutely they do, and youre kidding yourself if you think their partners or other people up there with them actually care. All that means in their eyes is more money for them.

How many years and how much money has been put into this research? It just seems odd that while huge progress has been made over the years, but looking at the progress of other stuff has there really been a huge progress with cancer or is that just what were supposed to believe?

You're kidding right?

Wealthy people die of cancer. People who research possible cures have kids, parents, spouses, friends who die of cancer. Do you think that they are just let to die, to preserve the secret of the cure of cancer?

Theres cancers that have been eradicated or treatments that have super high success rates.

Theres so many types of cancers that i doubt we'll ever have a blanket cure.

Hell, we don't even have a reliable cure for the common cold, cause that also has like 4000 different versions
