The choices are many. You could regift. Especially if you know someone with a need for it. If you think you may have a need for it later, you could save it for then. Or make a trade with someone. If someone has something you may need. Or sell it... Id probably do that before throwing it away. Even selling it makes you a couple bucks...

Sell them or if you feel you might have use for it one day then store it. You could also give it back and hope they keep a receipt so they can get you something useful. Some may think this option is being ungrateful but I'm sure the gift giver wants to give you something useful so maybe they will be cool with it.

Usually just give it away to someone else (if it doesn't have much value over $20)...if it's something worth north of $100, then probably either give it back to whoever gave it to me or sell it...
