For the most part, at the time the us vs them mentality was huge...hell we even took some American Citizens who we thought to be "them" because of their race and stuck them into camps. That's just the unfortunate reality of the world at the time
Yep. The world was still pretty backwards back then. It wouldnt start becoming right until at least the 70's.

Yea most of those cartoons come from an era where racism was just the norm so of course the cartoons of the day will reflect that. Its not like they were using Looney Tunes to teach kids good morals and end racism. the writers of those cartoons subscribed to the same ideas and wrote it into their shows. I'll call them out and call the people who had those ideas pieces of shit in hindsight, but i also have to understand how different the country was back then with regard to morality.

I think Popeye fought in WW2 as well.
Popeye predates world war 1 so probably as the government turned a lot of those comics & cartoons into propaganda. Like the famous anti Japanese Superman cover.

By his circumstances. Half the time, the episode is about Bluto trying to steal Olive's affections, and then there are also episodes about simple everyday stuff like babysitting or termites. He' s a total everyman--just one who ends up having superpowers at the end of the episode, lol.

One of the episodes is him and bluto opening up competing restaurants and fighting to get Wimpy's business and in the end they just end up giving him a bunch of free food trying to outdo each other with better offers.

People in the 1940s were allowed to be as openly racist as they wanted to be and laws didn't protect them. You could beat and murder a person of color, get a 2 week trial with all the clues pointing at you and be acquitted if you lived in the right state...Even though the same can happen today, the deep south racist has to hold a lot of it in and be a lot more subtle than people even in the 60s had to be.
