  1. Ideas directly from the maker, but he doesn't want to direct? That's exactly what the prequels needed.
  2. Adapting the best of the EU would have been huge for hard core fans of 30+ years.
  3. What passion? Disney's Sequel Trilogy is all reaction based. They wrote the script based on what they thought would make money.

1.) Because the prequels were so great
2.) The EU is 90% shit.
3.) And fans make terrible fan fiction. If reddit got what they wanted from the trilogy it would be as awful as they think tlj is.

  1. The prequels feel like more a part of the Star Wars saga than the Sequels ever will.
  2. 90% wouldn't fit in three films. I'll take that good 10%.

  1. TFA was practically a remake of the OT because Disney was afraid to cover new storylines like George Lucas did.
  2. The EU was changed to 100% non-canon because Disney wanted to start from scratch and not have any push back about contradicting events.
  3. Passionate writers often cause trouble with the studio and producers who want the movie to be a specific way. Example: Disney pushing out Edgar Wright during Ant-man production.
