I cant quite put my finger on it but it just doesnt do it for me.

Sure youre given a lot of moves and different combos but for someone who isnt really invested in the series it really doesnt matter. I just end up spamming the buttons and that gets me through just fine. I have no desire to learn how to play it properly because its not all that challenging. The game doesnt really require me to want to learn all these combos and shit unless I really want to nerd out about it. I guess I could pump the difficulty up but something tells me that wont actually make it any more fun.

Actually with games like this turning up the difficulty is exactly what makes it fun

how about the fact that you combo together like 8 weapons without hitting a pause screen and be in midair and do it. Its stylish action with thousands of possibilities

I couldn't get into it. But it definitely wasn't bad. I think Im just not in a phase where Im entertained by the type of game. Seemed like what a DMC game should be.

Speaking of, can someone actually explain to me how to use Devil Trigger? I feel like I dont really understand it.

What's not to get about it? Just press whatever button it's assigned to and you do more damage and regen health (as Nero and Dante), while playing as V you use it to revive familiars and for burst damage from Nightmare, and that's about it. Hold Devil Trigger button while playing as Dante to use Sin Devil Trigger when you just wanna wreck everything.

DT Stinger is fun to spam, and when you have Devil Sword Dante you get some additional effects on certain moves. Like Balrog's Real Impact for example, when used in Devil Trigger you'll conjure up spinning swords to hold the enemy in place. It's mostly one of those things you just have to experiment with. That's just the kind of series DMC is.

i havent got to Dante yet

Im starting to figure out Nero a little but V still feels very spammy. And believe me I love the idea of a summoner type. But since youre a step removed from the action I really dont have much idea what my lil dudes are doing. Just spam buttons and wait for a finishing move

I haven't played DMC since the second one.I enjoyed 5 but haven't beaten it yet.Pretty close and the free game pass made it even better.
The flow of combat and variety really kept me playing.Not into the story much since I usually play while drinking beer on the weekend.

I don't blame you for not liking V, he's universally considered the weakest part of the game from a gameplay standpoint. One thing I will insist on is that at least one of his familiars (Griffon/Shadow) be mapped to a shoulder button. Makes it easier to use them both at the same time. They Stalemate faster on higher difficulties, so you should also get in the habit of dodging around when they're in danger so they don't take more damage than they need to. And like previously mentioned, summoning Nightmare will instantly revive them. When playing as V, keeping his familiars alive is the most important thing to keep in mind considering they're directly linked to his mobility options.

i will take this under advisement. Havent come close to losing a familiar yet.

V is the worst.

I legitimately wonder if you are trolling though.

The freedom DMC allows with it's combat is unparalleled in the genre, instead of links forced to use certain moves, movement is given the focus allowing far more capability.

Makes stuff like distorted real impact and other hidden stuff great to stumble upon.

To be clear you know the story and characters are intentionally dumb right? Might not be as blatant in this one compared to Dante engaging in mock Shakespeare.

No one should feel good about themselves they allow something this stupid to exist.

Maybe take a that effort to make something good? its entirely possible to create something over the top and ridiculous while also having interesting and redeemable characters and a plot you somewhat care about.

Any time you see another character, that's another player either a live one or a ghost of one.

So you can rate their performance.

So sometimes when you're playing a mission, that mission also takes place at the same time as another character's mission. If you're observant enough, you can even sometimes see another player doing their own thing in the background of whatever mission you're playing. Unfortunately there aren't actually that many missions where players can fight side by side. IIRC the online functionality only really means anything at the end of Mission 7 where Nero and V are present, and during the entirety of Mission 13 where all three playable characters are present. If you give someone a thumbs up they get a gold orb, and that's basically it. It's pretty interesting in theory, but a little half-baked in execution.
