Keep in mind Parkinson's law: "work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion." In other words, if a person has two hours to complete a certain task that does not necessarily require two hours for completion, they will typically use the entire two hours to complete that task, simply because they have a little "free time." Therefore, give yourself a smaller window within which to work; give yourself thirty minutes even if you think it will require an hour, because the time crunch will force you to work harder, faster, and smarter than you normally would; and many times, you will get it done in the half hour, or whatever time you allotted yourself.
Reduce the amount of time you spend cruising YouTube videos with one simple technique: select the option to accelerate the video's play speed. Usually x2 is far too fast to really enjoy the video, so x1.5 is a pretty good balance. x1.5 speed means you will get through a video in 2/3 the time (so if you spend three hours on YouTube, that time will be cut back to two hours). At the very least, increase the playback time to x1.25; typically this increase won't really be noticeable while you're watching the video, but it reduces the time spent watching the video by 20% (4/5 the usual duration). So if you spend three hours cruising YouTube, simply by adjusting the speed to x1.25 you will save yourself 36 minutes, cutting the three hours back to 2 hours and 24 minutes.
