He was truly terrible in the 2000s, most of his calls had literally zero emotion and the most emotional he ever got was that embarassing "disgusting act by Randy Moss". And some executive should have realized how terrible he was and told him to get better if he wanted to keep his job.

But in recent years he has gotten a lot better, he actually shows emotion now. People only hate him because they hear his voice and remember how terrible he used to be.

He's especially good on baseball. His call of Ortiz's grand slam in 2013 is a favorite of mine.

He's an excellent baseball announcer, but his NFL calls are still very hit or miss IMO.

He's far from the worst commentator though.

Him being with Aikman is the worst part. They both have slightly different pitches of the same goddamned voice. It's like a boring bloke talking about the game with his slightly malformed boring clone.

I actually kind of like Booger, in the same way you rubberneck at car accidents. It's not good, and it's a shame it happened, but ooh look at that!

Mostly I miss local commentary teams for NFL games. While not all of them are good, watching a sport with a mostly unbiased play by play guy with a homer for your team color guy is the best. The only way to get that is to mute the TV and listen to the radio with football, which is a damned shame (but completely worth doing).

Joe Buck fucking sucks. He has immense bias in what he commentates, usually for whatever the eastern team is, and he provides zero insight into the game.

The only worse commentators are Van Gundy and Mark Jackson for Basketball

Go back and listen to the Giants vs Patriots game, the Tyree catch. One of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history basically had 0 emotion to it. You would think it was just a routine play all around.
