God is a flawless infinite being. He/She is perfect.

Therefore God cannot create the devil. Unless God wanted the devil to exist. Because if God didn't want the devil to exist and the angel Michael revolted against God's will, that means God screwed up. God cannot screw up.

I don't think the devil exists.

The angel Michael never revolted against God's will. I think you are confusing him with Lucifer. Michael is the leader of God's angelic forces against Lucifer.

The devil is humanity's failures given physical form.

Lucifer was one of God's favorites. But he grew jealous of the humans. The angels were so perfect and yet God loved humans more. Even with all of the flaws and failures. That jealousy turned to resentment and then finally to hatred.

And since God is infinite he would have forseen this, so he'd either be okay with it or he messed up.

God can't mess up, so there's a chance the devil isn't real.

God is all knowing

The creation of Satan was entirely intentional

One of the old names for him was adversary

God knew there had to be a symbol of evil personified so that humans knew what not to do. Because humans are infinitely stupid and flawed compared to God. So he's like "hello my stupid children, I'm going to make this easy for you. Don't be like the bad guy I have created for you to understand"

That's one of those conundrums.

Like, if God wishes to destroy the devil but cannot, then he's not omnipotent.

If God can destroy the devil but chooses not to, then he's not benevolent.

I also take issue with the whole "free will" thing with God's omniscience. What is the sense in putting us here and giving us free will when it's a foregone conclusion that we will fuck up horribly and deserve punishment?

It's like leaving food on the kitchen table while you go in the other room to grab something. "Oh boy, I sure hope my dog companion doesn't jump up here and eat this delicious meal I just prepared! That would be so tragic and I'd have to punish him!" You do this knowing damn well that he will 100% eat the food because it's what is in his nature to do, and then you come back and beat him despite knowing full well that you were setting him up to fail. That seems twisted to me, lol.

You're actually more right than you probably even realize dude

When your pastor or whatever used to say "God is mysterious" this is what he was talking about

Like God doesn't make sense to us because we aren't even close to being intelligent enough to understand. Think about whoever you consider the smartest man in history. He's still a moron compared to God.

If you're starting from the axiom that god is an omnipotent and omniscient being, they you're going to have to accept a lot of idiosyncrosies from him to square his odd behaviors with that fact. I also think you cannot have both an "all-powerful" God and an "infinitely good" God. For God to create Evil would mean, by definition, he is not all-good--For God to subject evil, willingly, upon man would make him the source of all evil. For God to be incapable of creating a perfect world of Good without Evil would mean he is not all-powerful. For Him to be unable to create Free Willed creatures without allowing them to sin is merely a limitation we imagine him to have, but not one an infinitely powerful being should actually be beholden to.

How do you know this to be true? I believe I am more intelligent than the Bible's depiction of God. Has God done anything especially intelligent to prove this fact to you?

If anything he's just proven himself to be more powerful than humans. Wisdom... hasn't been observed. Both the Flood and Jesus' full existence were 100% preventable occurrences.

It's almost like there's some trial and error going on!

My last thought on it is, why would you want the God of the Bible to be real? His exploits, especially prior to the New Testament, read more like an arbitrary tyrant enforcing a strict, poorly communicated moral code upon a beleaugered and confused population. Then, to nail home how manipulative he is, he twists his acts of cruelty into being acts of love. Like a serial abuser, he convinces humanity it's THEIR fault he had to genocide the entire population of Earth aside from Noah and his family. Never mind how absent God had been in directing, teaching, and helping the people of Earth. This repeats itself over and over and over again. Job, Sodom, Gomorrah, Egypt, ect. ect. ect. Why would you want to believe in a God like that? Someone who can embody such evil and show so little remorse?

He can, and he does. Just not yet. The book of Revelation quite clearly depicts Jesus ultimately slaying Satan at least once. The book of Habakkuk goes into detail of why he doesn't just yet. He uses one evil to punish others in a cycle that is eventually broken when Satan ultimately purges all the wicked except himself, and Jesus, being the ultimate Good, rids the world of evil forever with a single precision blow.

He definitely appears in person at least twice off the top of my head--in the book of Job and in the gospels--plus, Revelation names him specifically as the meaning behind the dragon, which in turn ties him to the serpent in the Garden of Eden. IIRC Jude also refers to him, but Jude is a weird book I can't figure out what to make of.

But to your point, there aren't a lot of specific mentions of the guy.

You can't gauge goodness proper unless you compare it to evil so maybe god created the devil intentionally so humans can compare and go to god.

This is a narrow-minded view where one only considers the dichotomy present in our current reality. God, if omnipotent, could create any reality. He could create a reality where Evil is not necessary for Good to exist. If he were a being of infinite goodness, that would be a much better use of his infinite power. Hell, he could create a reality, incomprehensible to us, where Good and Evil do not exist as a dichotomy, but as two parts of an elaborate 19-part paradigm of values that can't even exist in our minds. He chose to create evil despite evil being unnecessary. He subjected humanity to evil despite supposedly loving all of us. Then he punishes humanity when it falls to the whims of evil, and not in a way to achieve rehabilitation! Oh no, instead of rehabilitating sinners, he subjects them to an eternity of suffering, because that is what a being of infinite good would do.
