As an annually disappointed Chargers fan, we gave the Jaguars a mollywhopping today to the tune of 45-10. Having tasted victory after weeks of disappointment, I was happy we got the W despite being eliminated from playoff contention.

So I go to various Chargers social media posts and despite the victory, I see multiple fans outraged that we should've just tanked to get a better pick. I know the common social media sports fan can be pretty toxic, but I just think that tanking talk is coward shit.

What say you?

I don't believe in the term. I'm a Detroit Red Wings fan, it's my favorite team in my favorite sport. Their record right now is 7-21-4 (4 is overtime losses) so essentially 7 wins 25 losses on the season.

I don't really think any coach tells their players to go out and lose. I think a legitimate effort goes into being a terrible team. I get the concept of tanking, but I don't believe any pro team goes out of their way to lose games to improve their draft chances.

The Sabres tried to tank for McDavid

The Colts tanking for Andrew Luck was pretty obvious. There was a bunch of serviceable QBs they could've signed but they stuck with the horrendously awful Curtis Painter and then...dragged the corpse of Kerry Collins out of retirement IIRC

Yeah, the NFL tends to be more obvious about everything

Mmhmm. I kinda like it the way the NBA does it with the lottery draft. But instead of the bottom 14 teams, it should be the bottom 5 or 10 having a random chance at the top 4 picks or something.

It was obvious that Miami was tanking until Tua got injured.
