Because making a larger variety of movie for more groups of people is a good thing.
The problem is most of the time the people making these movies forget that the film still has to be good. Simply targeting a certain group of people isn't enough if the movie sucks and the marketing sucks. --- Occam's razor: The simplest solution (answer) is most likely the right one ...
