It feels normal when I leave the patch of ice.

But it still feels like it could be damaged somehow?

That's the anti-lock functionality keeping the wheels from completely locking up while you're applying force to the break. The wheels need to keep rolling to most efficiently slow the car down if it's on ice.

That's usually the anti-lock system pulsing the brakes automatically.

Haha at the responses. Yeah, it's normal. If I'm getting that I usually ease off the brake a bit and reapply. It's definitely scary if (for example) you're trying to stop ahead of a line up of stopped cars and it starts that shit.
