I've never understood how much hate this film gets.The plot and characters weren't amazing, unlike 2, but the action was great, plus the whole formula of Terminators sent back in time still worked well.

Yeah. The movie overall was mediocre but the ending almost made up for it.

I've heard it more or less completely contradicts the plot of the second movie, but in all honesty I only saw it once while it was in theaters and I don't remember how it ended

'Contradicts' isn't exactly correct. The beauty of T2 is that the future is left amibiguous, giving you hope for once in the franchise that Armageddon may actually have been averted (not certainly averted like some people would like you to believe, just possibly averted). T3 takes that ambiguity and says 'lol fuck you, you're still in the darkest timeline.' T3's ending is good in a bubble, but when weighed against its prior entries, to me it just embodies an unecessary sequel when T2 wrapped things up just about perfectly.

That was a huge oversight, like there wouldn't be any kind of issue with civilians walking in.

I hated how they killed Linda Hamilton/Sarah Connor off-screen.

I don't have anything against Nick Stahl, but DAMN was John Connor an insufferable whiny bitch in this movie.

The T-X was pretty awesome, and how it tied in with the activation of Skynet.

It wasn't a bad movie, but had some glaring issues.

Terminator 1 is still the best movie in the franchise, and I wish we had more movies like Salvation, I would love to see more of the Future War.

She helped Skynet take over when it activated. She took control over the T-1s for example. She pretty much took over the entire military complex. Basically she was sent back to improve Skynet's chances of winning in the future and help with the uprising.
