I honestly consider it a lot more humane than common alternatives like time out or yelling. I was spanked as a kid but it was the yelling that dealt the actual long-term damage.

Agree with this. Can't believe there are people out there that think a slightly painful touch would cause any sort of mental damage in any shape or form. Anyone with common sense understands how to physically discipline without it feeling like torture. That would of course cause problems later on.

I screwed up quite a few times as a young one and got myself into some pain. Guess what, I never made those mistakes again. The intended message was delivered. I also knew it was coming - I would run but eventually stop and prepare to take it. :P

Absolutely not. I've never laid a hand on my child and she's polite and well behaved, it's totally unnecessary and a sign of a bad parent.

I wish spanking was the only thing I got.

No. While I don't think it is abuse or very damaging like some parents claim, I just feel that as an adult you are the one in power in any situation with your children. There are more effective ways to teach your kids without just smacking them and telling them not to do it again.

Spanking is the lazy/easy way out in my opinion. If you don't want to put in time and effort to teach your kids why what they did is wrong and what better choices they could have made then you can just mindlessly hit them and be done with it.

Yeah, I fully support hitting children who can't defend themselves, look up to me and rely on me for teaching them right from wrong.

But if I do it to an adult, I damn sure better get some jail time for it.
