We only have one TV in the house as we don't really want a second one and what not. I'm fine with that. However i want some kind of monitor I can use just to play random games on when the TV is in use so.. yeah. I don't need 4k gaming or anything but 1080p or more works.

Would it have to be a certain hz to work?

So...you want to play games without sound? That's pretty much the only difference between a TV and a monitor these days.

Anyway, all that really matters for console gaming is 60hz and low latency.

TVs are 60hz. Make sure you get a monitor with speakers too. And I'll point out that you can get a basic TV for super cheap these days and especially today the Blackest of Fridays.

Some brief research and I found a 43 inch 1080p for $150

But how are you connecting those speakers? Don't know about the Xbone, but the Switch has 3.5mm while PS4 has digital audio-out.

Don't want a tv for sure so. I can always replace my old PC monitor since it has no HDMI port and use that as well. I found https://amzn.to/2R2xqAk which is 20 inch and has speakers built in. Seems decent.

if you get a monitor with an audio output slot, you can just hook up some speakers to that

I just grabbed a Specter one for $75 with full HD. I won't use it too much to pay too much for it. I needed to upgrade my old ass 2015 monitor anyway, that didn't even have an HDMI slot.

HDMI and DVI are actually more or less the same signal for general PC use. You only need HDMI for audio and fancy color features. In fact converter cables can be bought cheap since it just changes the shape of the port.

(fun fact: even VGA is capable of 4K. It's just not recommended because analog is susceptible to signal interference)
