Most people prefer 2 despite 3 being better in every way. Being able to hold 3 items instead of 1, more items overall, better boards for the most part, better minigames that were entirely new instead of half of them being recycled from the previous game like mp2, and the inclusion of waluigi.

It's right behind 2 in the series' hierarchy fwiw, plus it was a 2001 N64 release so it had a smaller audience as well.

The amount of items and being able to hold 3 was awesome. I didn't like the boards nearly as much though. They felt less inspired and more difficult to deal with than 1/2.

Some of the minigames just didn't feel quite as good. Look at awful tower; should be a fun platforming game but it's poorly designed with clunky control and play mechanics. The dog-fighting flying game sucked because it was impossible to really point and aim properly. Bounce N Trounce...clunky, bumper balls was 1000x more fun with solid controls.

Many of the games were good. The pizza eating thing that's similar to buried treasure was cool. Snowball Summit, Pipe Cleaners,and a dozen others were fun enough. Pretty much all the battle games are solid. Good duel games compared to 1 per board on MP2.

I guess all in all I'd give it a 7.5 versus 8 or 8.5 on the first two. Not horrible but it didn't quite feel as good of an experience for me.

Youd give mp1 an 8.5? MP2 I get, but MP1 was awful.

Mario Party 1 was a good game. Had serious flaws, but it was the first game so I forgive it.

Mario Party 2 fixed all of the problems that MP1 had, making it my favorite MP game.

Never played 3 though.

3 is my favorite of the series. All the odd-numbered ones were fantastic.

2 was fine but I'll never understand why people gush over it.

3 > 7 > Super > DS > 5 = 2 = 6 > 1 > 4 IMHO.
