There's 2 laptops I've been looking at for Black Friday and they're these two

https://bit.ly/2Xzdg1S

https://bit.ly/3390E2X

On Black Friday the Dell will be 1100 and the MSI will be 1150, so price doesn't matter.

The specs are also pretty much identical so it just comes down to brand preference. I've only had Dell Laptops in the past but I wouldn't mind trying out a MSI, is there any reason why I should get it over a Dell?

MSI make fantastic laptops. Their motherboards are leaps and bounds better than anything dell offers.

Didnt click the links but nowadays brands are much of a muchness so long as they are major brands and well recognised. Which both dell and msi are.

AFAIK Dell has significantly better post-sales support and to me that's what kept me in the Dell/Alienware family for so long.

I haven't touched either of those laptops IRL but I'd also caution the build quality/etc... I've found MSI laptops in the past to not feel as robust as the Dell laptops but it might just depend on model/range. The MSI laptops usually have better specs and look better for the same money though.

... but now I have a Razer and I felt compelled to buy extended warranty from the retailer.

maybe it is different for me since I live in Australia but they usually come to your home next business day when theres an issue and can do repairs on the spot. MSI here however has the more traditional RMA service process of send it back and expect a response in 2 weeks and a repair or replacement in 4-8 weeks.

Yeah, but don't you have to pay for that service? At least in the enterprise side, it's a significant cost for that kind of warranty.

I'd go with the MSI. The only complaint I had for mine was the general build quality of the outer case. It is by no means a deal breaker though.

came standard on my pretty basic Dell netbook back in 2009, and looking at all my subsequent laptops from Dell and Alienware, theyve all come with NBD in home support. Shrug. I also complained once about how late they were in shipping me something and got $200 worth of Alienware accessories so no complaints from me.

YMMV though.

NBD on-site is usually very cheap. Its same day on-site that costs big bucks. And even more if you want to skip the phone support

NBD on-site is still better than off-site bring to the authorised service centre from a customer experience perspective though. that being said, apple does that but they happen to have a lot of genius bars so at least you aren't travelling to the middle of nowhere to sit in an industrial park.

To be 100% honest Im not gonna be gaming on it a TON but I mainly wanted an all purpose laptop that is capable of gaming on high settings when I want to.

But the main game I would be playing for sure Dragon Ball FighterZ since I play that game competitively.

I also use programs like Ableton and FL Studio and I want something that can handle those without problem.

I dont mind putting down the money for a good laptop, Ive had a shitty one for a while

either or, tbh.
ableton and fl studio are cpu and ram restrained, not GPU so GPU doesn't matter.

Realistically what's wrong with your current laptop?

personally i wouldnt get an MSI laptop just because i have heard terrible things about their customer service. dell is a major company with a larger presence in the US than MSI and has a more prominent laptop business, so having that support i think is crucial. it's so easy to get a laptop with something wrong and then you have to jump through hoops to get it fixed.

I've had to RMA a couple laptops via them through work, and their customer service was fine. Maybe years ago when they were a new company it was an issue, but over the past 5 or so years we've been using them, it hasn't been an issue.
