I'm curious whether the average American Gfaqs user has ever found themselves in such situation.

How was it like?

I was in Phoenix hanging out on McDowell and across the street there was a huge house party.Several people started shooting some of the bullets skipped across the road forcing me and a few others to jump behind a 4ft wall.Pretty scary but yet brushed it off soon.

i was working at a school after school in a rough neighborhood in san francisco. a school up the street had a targeted gang-related shooting and the shooter fled. all the schools went into lock down out of fear they'd go into other schools to hide.

it was a shit show. both our bosses were not there. it was right when school got out so a bunch of kids were trying to leave only to be stopped and they were confused. there was a special ed girl throwing a tantrum in the middle of the street at the same time and the counselors were trying to grab her.

no one knew what to do. fucking terrible management that day.

but we got the kids into one safe area and waited it out, so thats good.

well, i wouldn't have been in any danger since it's a big campus, and it was a targeted murder-suicide (personal beef). I would have been stuck on lockdown for a long time though.

Twice for me. Once was when I was in the military, I was overseas and my job title was 88M and I transported a lot of ammo and supplies to military bases via truck. A ratty pick up truck opened fire on our convoy, the back end of the 40 foot flatbed I was driving was struck twice but nowhere near the cab. They made short work of the pick up truck and it was only a threat for a few seconds.

The other time was at a gas station in Atlanta, I was literally just sitting there pumping gas and a guy ran by on the sidewalk and started shooting up the gas station building itself. I was more terrified that he would hit a gas tank and the whole thing was gonna explode like in the movies but it didn't happen. I squatted next to my car as it went down, there were 8 to 10 shots fired.

really not much to tell, i was attending the netapp conference and checked in right when it started. they locked everything down until 9am the next day, then it was right back to vegas type shit. it was surreal as fuck...i wanted to leave but the douches i rode with wanted to stay.

Never right in the midst of a shooting incident, heard gun shots a few weeks ago that ended up being a couple blocks behind my house. Someone was shot *at* but no one was hit in the parking lot of a restaurant back there. Plenty of crime in my city but not really in my neighborhood so that was a rare occurrence for sure.

no gunshots, but lots of panicking...

Not sure if it counts, but my dad was going to shoot me once. He was loading his pistol saying he was going to blow my brains out. We stopped him before he could though, big brawl broke out.

I was close to a police shooting in the summer. Other than that no.

Yeah there was a drive by at my high school once and then there was a time my friend and I were robbed at gunpoint but no shots were fired that time.
